You are Invited to the 2012 CAP Art Auction!

The largest contemporary art auction of its kind in the Northwest.

Dear Friends,

We are proud to serve as the Honorary Chairs of the 2012 Cascade AIDS Project Art Auction. With your help, we’ll make the 24th annual auction the most successful event of the year in support of work CAP does to fight HIV/AIDS.

CAP’s Art Auction is the social event of the year! There will be great food, wine, music, dancing, and art—not to mention great people. Some 250 artworks will be up for perusal and purchase this year in the live and silent auctions, including a special section with five pieces donated by prominent art collectors, including Arlene Schnitzer and Kurt Beadell.

Our life’s work is about strengthening community, and so is Cascade AIDS Project’s. We’re proud to lend our support to CAP’s Annual Art Auction. HIV affects us all: young and old, gay and straight. More than 1.2 million people in the United States live with the virus—almost 7,000 in Oregon and SW Washington. This is why we are joining Cascade AIDS Project and sponsors The Hedinger Family Foundation, Nike, The Standard, Morel Ink, Ball Janik, and others to raise funds to fight HIV and AIDS.

Please join us Saturday, April 28, 2012. Your participation makes a difference!

Sincerely,

Bing and Carolyn Sheldon

About Bing and Carolyn Sheldon

With the desire to make a difference, Bing and Carolyn Sheldon moved from Copenhagen to Portland in 1964. Since then, they’ve raised a family, founded SERA architecture, reshaped the face of downtown, touched the lives of thousands of school children, and played a role in the success of many nonprofit organizations committed to bolstering Portland’s economic, artistic, and civic wellbeing. Further proof of their dedication are Carolyn’s 30+ years as a Portland Public School counselor and Bing’s leadership as an architect invested in historic preservation and innovative living communities.

Cascade AIDS Project’s mission is near to the Sheldons’ hearts. During Carolyn’s tenure as the Portland Public School’s Director of Student Services, she instigated training for teachers and staff on creating a safe and accepting environment for LGBT students and students with gay or lesbian parents. The Sheldon’s son, Graham, is gay, giving the family firsthand experience with harm stigma can create.

Bing, chairman and founder of SERA, takes an active part in the design of all projects. His past experience includes master planning, mixed-use facilities, and adaptive reuse of historic structures. Bing is a registered architect in Oregon and Washington and is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects. His civic affiliations include Mt Hood Cultural Center and Museum, Central City Concern, and Fort Vancouver National Historic Reserve Trust.

As the Portland Public School’s Director of Student Services, Carolyn integrated social services into the schools to fight gangs, encourage LGBT acceptance, and introduced child development specialists to elementary schools. She was President of the National American School Counselor Association, after which she joined the faculty of the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. Carolyn has served on the board of the Morrison Center for Kids, Children First, Northwest Children’s Theater and School, and volunteers at Chapman Elementary School.
